ROCK or SAND?

In the 7th chapter of Matthew, Jesus talks to us a little while about the importance of a firm and solid foundation for our building.  Listen to His words:

"Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock.  (Notice it's not enough to just hear -- we've got to do something about what we've heard!)
And the rains descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not; for it was founded upon a rock.
And everyone that heareth these sayings of Mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it."

We know and understand that a wise builder will have a strong and firm foundation that will not give way when the storms descend, the winds blow, and the rains pour down like a flood.
Then, the Master contrasts the wise man's solid foundation with the carelessness and foolishness of the man who built his house on the sand and lost everything when the storm came!

Jesus was surely thinking about our lives when He gave us this lesson.  He wanted us to have a firm foundation, and made it very clear that He is the Rock upon which we must build if we are to withstand the storms of life!  His Holy Word is the anchor for our souls!  Anything less that you may try to build your life upon will be like sand, and will not provide a sufficient foundation.

Perhaps we all need to take a little time to examine our foundation today!  Let us make sure we are not building on the shifting sand, but are anchored firmly in the blessed Rock of Ages!
